Origins
Antonio Petti (1886 – 1955), descended from an ancient family of landowners of the Agro Nocerino Sarnese countryside, founded the first production plant in Nocera Superiore, in the province of Salerno, under the name: Company Antonio Petti fu Pasquale S.p.A.
A new course
Pasquale, Antonio’s son, marries Maria Gambardella who joined the company becoming a reference point for the production, so much that today she is still following the company in Nocera with her great experience.
A succes abroad
The Antonio Petti fu Pasquale S.p.A. becomes the leader in Europe for the packaging of tomatoes with a production of 1.5 million cartons per year and a workforce of 400 employees.
1972
First innovation
Antonio Petti, son of Maria and Pasquale becomes part of the family company and makes a number of innovations, such as starting to work tomato paste on a large scale in tin cans and aluminum tubes.
1973
Birth of Italian Food S.p.a.
The Antonio Petti fu Pasquale S.p.A. was changing corporate structure and become a joint stock company. In the same year a new production plant in Venturina Terme (LI) is taken over from the Group Arrigoni, and the production site is named Italian Food S.p.A.
1978
First certification
On November 11, the International Center for the diffusion of Italian Culture and Labor assigns the certification mark “Society and Progress” to the Antonio Petti fu Paquale S.p.A. in Rome.
Important awards
since 1951 On July 24 Maria Gambardella Petti, production leader of the company, receives the Award of the Loyalty to the Labor and Economic Progress of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Salerno with the “Gold Medal of Merit” for having served uninterrupted service with qualified management functions at the Company Petti SpA

A new honor
On March 17, Maria Gambardella Petti was awarded the title of “Cavaliere della Patria” in memory of the inauguration of the Section San Vincenzo (LI) S.T.V. – M.O.V.M. Leonardo Madoni.
1994
Stronger bound with Tuscan territory
Breakthrough year for Petti S.p.A. which converts its production, almost entirely, in into concentrated tomato paste in all formats, leaving to the Italian Food S.p.A. the processing of fresh tomatoes grown in the Tuscan countryside.
1997
Innovative packaging
The Antonio Petti S.p.A. buys one of the first TETRA PAK machines in Italy for sterile packaging of tomato sauce for 500 grams carton.
1999
The global scale leadership
Antonio Petti, thanks to its considerable commercial skills and to the full trust of his customers, both European and non-European, with the technical support of his mother Maria, brings the Antonio Petti S.p.A. to be considered among the first companies in the world in the exportation of tomato paste..
2000
Connections with Africa
The Petti S.p.A. now meets 70% of the tomato concentrate needs of the African continent.
2001
Up to date
Birth of the Petti Group after the corporate operations that lead to the control of P.A.C.O. S.c.a.r.l. in Bellizzi (SA) and C.G.A. S.p.A. of Poggio Imperiale (FG). On 11th March 2001, the Department of Culture of Salerno delivers the Special Prize “DONNA 2000” for entrepreneurship to Maria Gambardella Petti.
New generation
In March, the inauguration of the new production plant Conserveria Africana Limited in Lagos, Nigeria, to compete with the increasingly aggressive Chinese competition on the African territory. A market that absorbs about 35% of the Group’s exportation of concentrated tomato paste.
In December Pasquale Petti, Antonio’s son, joins the Company after his studies, bringing profound changes to the image of the Group’s companies, products and to the relations with the customers.
The turning point
Turning point for the Italian Food S.p.A. in Terme di Venturina (LI) which, thanks to the enormous productive investment by Maria Gambardella Petti and Pasquale Petti, is transformed from a satellite company of the Group into a new company, growing in size and work force, by establishing direct contacts with the international customers. In May, Pasquale Petti assumes the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Group and contributes to consolidating the reputation of the Group in the international arena with the launch of new products and the expansion of the sales network in Italy and abroad.
